Responding and interpreting

These lesson materials, written by Lorna Smith, are part of a wider set of NATE materials based on the Entitlement Document. In this unit, students see texts in alternative versions:

• Introduction
• Compare original manuscripts with the modern versions, to assess how punctuation, word usage and layout change over time, using news resports from 1914 and 2003
• Access the original draft of a poem via the Internet and compare it with the finished work, beginning with The Lady of Shalott and including links to other works.
• Compare various versions of a text, for example Romeo and Juliet, as a play, a film and an animation

The resources are all in word processor format so that you can adapt them for your classroom.
